National Security System

America’s national security system is in need of critical repair, when considering the crucial failures at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

At the turn of the century there was illegal downloading of classified information, then the loss of a hard drive containing the world’s most secret nuclear weapons information – all negatively affecting America’s national security system. But that was not all the failures. In 2002, it was uncovered that certain Los Alamos lab employees were involved in crimes, mismanagement, corruption and cover-ups. Unbelievably, lab personnel could not locate nearly 400 lab computers, which potentially contained national secrets.

The person mainly responsible for uncovering this failed national security system authored a book in 2010, titled, Implosion At Los Alamos: How Crime, Corruption and Cover-Ups Jeopardize America’s Nuclear Weapons Secrets.

As a result, Los Alamos leaders were subpoenaed before three congressional hearings where they were blasted for their failures, especially shortcomings concerning the protection of our national security system. But the debacles did not stop there. Now Los Alamos employees started losing classified disks, thumb drives and flashcards. In 2009 a lab scientist took three lab computers to his home. His residence was subsequently burglarized, the unknown thieves stealing the 3 computers. Lab leaders then conducted an audit and determined that they actually had about 70 more computers lost or stolen.

This book is a must read for all Americans concerned about the security of our national secrets, terroristic attacks against the homeland, and the failsafe protection of our national security system.
