A word that drives fear through every American is dirty bombs. Security experts warn that the explosion of dirty bombs by terrorists is a possibility in America in 2010 and beyond. Contrary to common beliefs, terrorists need not bomb material into United States, because the material for is already here, in various venues. A major concern for the security of this material is the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Glenn Walp in his 2010 book, entitled, Implosion At Los Alamos: How Crime, Corruption and Cover-Ups Jeopardize America’s Nuclear Weapons Secrets, outlines in detail how this threat is real and present.. Walp emphases the need to ensure failsafe security of bomb material that is housed at the lab. Regrettably, the Los Alamos laboratory has had a poor record during the first decade of the 21st century of failed security, crime, corruption and cover-ups. These debacles, makes the concern even greater when considering the possibility of terrorists striking America.
During 2003, the Los Alamos lab lost 2 vials of plutonium oxide. Lab officials stated that they think it was safely disposed in some type of barrels, but they couldn’t prove it. Not a comforting comment for Americans. Experts warn that even a small portion of plutonium oxide is just as bit as dangerous as weapons-grade, if dispersed in dirty bombs.
This book is a must read for all Americans concerned about the security of our national secrets, terroristic attacks against the homeland, and the explosion of dirty bombs on American soil.
